Dennis Engist

Hello!

I am a PhD candidate in Food and Resource Economics at the Faculty of Land and Food Systems, University of British Columbia (Vancouver, Canada). 

I am an applied environmental economist doing research in biodiversity, conservation, agriculture, fisheries and trade. I am interested in policy to protect and conserve our environment and resources, and in the interaction of biodiversity and human activity: how we affect biodiversity, and how we depend on it for economic production. Much of my work concerns effects that cross national borders, whether these travel through trade and the regulation of it, or through ecosystems that do not stop at borders. 

Before coming to Vancouver, I  earned a BSc and MSc in Agricultural Sciences at ETH Zürich. Following my Master's, I completed one year pre-doc in the Agricultural Economics and Policy group at ETH. In between, I also worked in regulatory compliance at a cigar manufacturer.
